Cycling in Te Anau

Cycling in and around Te Anau and Manapouri is one of the best ways to explore the area.

Bikes are not allowed on hiking tracks in Fiordland National Park just yet, but there are plenty of places to go bike riding around Te Anau, including on formed roads and local off-road tracks.

Even though Fiordland is – as the name implies – mountainous, Te Anau and Manapouri are on a flat, which means there are great biking routes with options for all skill levels. One highlight is the scenic Lake2Lake trail, which takes you partway between Lake Te Anau and Lake Manapouri along the shores of the upper Waiau River. This trail has been constructed by a charitable trust funded entirely by donations which we are proud to have supported.

A great way to experience the Lake2Lake trail is by bike and jet boat. For an exciting way to enjoy the landscape along the edge of the Waiau River and Lake Te Anau, talk to us about flexible cycle trips. Find out more about bike trips to do in Te Anau here.

We recommend everyone downloads the Great Rides app before heading off.
