Step 1  Bus or self-drive from Queenstown to Te Anau Downs

A 2.5-hour bus or self-drive journey from Queenstown to Te Anau Downs. Enjoy the views without the hassle of driving yourself or ask us about vehicle relocation options if you're self-driving.

Bus departs Queenstown CBD daily at 8am to meet the 11.30am boat at Te Anau Downs to make the most of your first day on the track. For a later start choose the 10.30am bus which meets the 2pm boat at Te Anau Downs.

Meet the water taxi at Te Anau Downs for a 50-minute boat journey up Lake Te Anau to Glade Wharf and the start of the Milford Track.

You can make the most of your day with our 11.30am water taxi departure or enjoy a later start with our 2pm departure.

Step 4  Water taxi from Sandfly Point to Milford Sound

At the end of the Milford Track (Sandfly Point), meet your water taxi for a short boat journey across to Deepwater Basin at Milford Sound.

The boat runs back and forth from 12.30pm-4pm and can be taken at any time between then.

Step 5  Bus, self-drive or fly from Milford Sound to Queenstown

Arriving back in Milford Sound, you have the option to catch the bus back to Queenstown, fly or meet your relocated vehicle. Allow around 4.5 hours for the journey from Milford Sound to Queenstown.

Book a vehicle relocation service and we'll arrange to deliver your vehicle from Te Anau Downs to Milford Sound. Your vehicle will be a welcome sight, just a few minutes' walk from where you get off the boat at Deepwater Basin, Milford Sound.

    OUTWARD
    Self-drive from Queenstown to Te Anau Downs, meet the 11.30am or 2pm water taxi from Te Anau Downs to Glade Wharf, start of Milford Track.

    RETURN
    Your vehicle is relocated from Te Anau Downs to Milford Sound. A water taxi picks you up from the end of the track and drops you off just 3 mins walk from your vehicle where you can continue your journey in comfort.

    First boat to the track - 8am Bus from Queenstown and 11.30am water taxi from Te Anau Downs to Glade Wharf, start of the Milford Track.

    RETURN
    12.30pm-4pm water taxi picks you up from Sandfly Point, the end of the track, and transports you to Milford Sound where you will board your 35 min scenic flight back to Queenstown

    PLEASE NOTE - We charge a small fee in order to reserve a seat on the bus back to Queenstown incase your flight can't go ahead. This is non-refundable if you do fly but goes towards your bus fare if you end up busing back to Queenstown.
