Experience the Milford Track—New Zealand’s most famous hiking track—independently and at your own pace.

A short boat journey between Milford Sound and Sandfly Point will have you on the Milford Track for a spectacular day walk experience.

A highlight is Giant Gates Falls (3 hours return), where you'll find a perfect place for a picnic lunch and a swim in the pools.

Step 1 Depart from Milford Sound: A 10-minute boat journey from Deepwater Basin in Milford Sound across to Sandfly Point, Milford Track, boat departs at 8.30am, 9.30am, 10.30am, 12pm and 1pm.
Step 2 Walk the Milford Track: At your own pace, walk the Milford Track. Sandfly Point to Giant Gates Falls is a 11-kilometre return walk and will take 3 hours.
Step 3 Return to Milford Sound: Meet the boat at Sandfly Point for your return journey to Deepwater Basin, Milford Sound. Your return time is flexible on the day, just chat to our skipper.
Optional Bus transport, Milford Sound cruise: Catch a 7.15am bus from Te Anau to Milford Sound for your day walk, returning at 2.30pm. Or choose a 5pm departure and make time for a scenic cruise in the fiord!

Milford Track Day Walk - from Milford Sound

Water taxi departs Deepwater Basin, Milford Sound 8.30am, 9.30am, 10.30am, 12pm and 1pm with return boat trip from Sandfly Point, Milford Track every half hour from 12pm until 4.30pm. Flexible to change your pick up time on the day, just chat to our skipper.
